Bagels and Locks

A foggy start gave way to 5 hours of beautiful sunny weather.  We managed 5 locks without incident and arrived at Schuylerville NY.  We enjoyed meeting Phil and Judy Dean, our hosts at the Schuylerville Marina.

We met a flotilla of old steam boats coming out of Lock 4 who all saluted us with their steam whistles!  A neat site!

As soon as we were fueled and tied, the thunderstorms started and have lasted off and on (with hail at times) until this morning.  Phil loaned us a car to grocery shop and go out to dinner as the heavy rain made the short walk difficult.

Note to Neil and Meghan:  Schuylerville is only 10 miles from Skidmore!

Plan today is to complete the 7 locks (there is no Lock 10) and stay in Whitehall NY for the night which is at the foot of the lake.  Judy and Jim Herron are going to meet us there and have dinner.

  1. I really feel bad for you fair weather sailors. I am sitting here in sunny Port Ludlow wishing for rain after umpty-ump days of continuous sunshine. Anyone who gets caught in a laundry room during a hail storm vice a good bar watching the Mariners whip the Red Sox *** sorry, just had an earthquake, the entire house shifted for a moment. Maybe the rain isn't so bad after all.
